Liposuction Surgery

Home / Services

An Introduction

Liposuction is a simple & safe surgical procedure involving bare minimum risks and chances of error. Depending on the extent of the liposuction, patients are generally able to return to work or school between two days and two weeks. Anybody healthy and having tried exercise, dieting but failed, can undergo liposuction. A session of liposuction may include more than one site, for instance, the abdomen, flanks, back, and thighs all on the same day. The best part is that these specific areas like lower belly, neck, and conditions like gynecomastia or male breasts, can be treated on a day care basis and individual can be at their home after 3-4 hrs without wasting the resources of individual or attendants.

Liposuction or Liposculpting

Excess deposit of fat can be removed by easily by liposuction and it is one of the commonest cosmetic surgery procedure performed nowadays. It effectively removes fat that cannot be lost by diet or exercise. Liposuction is particularly well-suited for men and women who are of relatively normal weight or a little overweight, but have isolated pockets of fat that cause certain areas of their body to appear disproportionate. These localised fat deposits may sometimes be an inherited trait (like lower belly & flanks of Indian females) and typically do not respond to dieting or exercise. Though liposuction is usually not done to reduce the weight in grossly overweight person; however, depending on the amount of fat sucked, 5-15% weight reduction of total weight can be achieved. In addition, the fat cells that are removed are gone forever. Generally eight to ten litres of fat can be reduced by liposuction. The procedure is done under local or general anaesthesia and you may need to be hospitalized for a day. Follow up for two weeks is expected.

Are you a good candidate for Liposuction?

Liposuction assumes utmost importance for Indians considering their genetic predisposition to typical patterns of weight gain like Double chin, Belly Bags, Saddle Bags or Hip Bags. While every patient who goes in for a consultation will be individually assessed to determine if they are healthy enough to undergo surgery, there are some conditions that could indicate that liposuction is right for you:

  • You have areas of fat deposits that are out of proportion with the rest of your body and do not go away with diet and exercise
  • Your skin elasticity is good – there is not a lot of excess skin and the area is firm (liposuction removes fat, not skin)
  • You wish there was more definition in certain areas of your body or a sleeker contour.

Liposuction is reportedly also beneficial in overweight diabetic patients also wherein excessive weight gain poses a greater demand for insulin and thus deteriorating the physical condition of the patient. In fact, loss of fat or weight by liposuction can tremendously help the diabetics since weight is reduced, insulin resistance is decreased; this all is obtained by minimal incisions, least chances of infection and remotest probability of weight gain.

The Procedure

Liposuction is performed through small, inconspicuous incisions using negative pressure of nearly minus one atmosphere. Such extremely low-pressure enables the fat cells to change from solid form to vaporized form, which can be suctioned out using very fine cannulae by minimal scarring. Several different liposuction procedures exists like Power assisted (PAL), VASER, LASER or Water Jet, however, Tumescent liposuction with PAL is the number one surgical procedure worldwide owing to its various advantages namely that it can be performed even under local anesthesia, while minimizing blood loss and prolonged pain control besides providing smoother results, fewer complications (safest of all), and faster recovery. Thats why Tumescent Technique & Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) is the GOLD STANDARD technique of liposuction.

Whichever technique is preferred by surgeon depending on the circumstances, overall liposuction is a very simple procedure involving bare minimum risks and chances of error. Depending on the extent of the liposuction, patients are generally able to return to work or school between two days and two weeks.

Your Recovery

You will be discharged from the hospital on the same day of surgery or in the next morning. You have to take some medications by mouth & need to wear elasticated pressure garments for 3-4 months (continuously for initial seven days and most of the time after that).

Fat Grafting

The fat injections add fat to the areas beneath the skin & subcutaneous tissue, creating fullness where needed that results in a lasting, youthful appearance of the injected area. It is the procedure where excess fat is removed from areas such as the abdomen, flanks, hips or thighs and, after special preparation, injected into areas of the body that need filling. The surgeon specializes in the use of the micro fat grafting technique & PRP preparation. The process requires gentle fat removal using low-vacuum liposuction and the use of thin, delicate, non-traumatic cannulas to protect the survival of each harvested living fat cell. The fat cells are then purified, mixed with freshly prepared autologous PRP and slowly injected through tiny skin incisions into the tissue of the recipient site utilizing a small syringe and cannula. Tiny droplets are placed throughout the tissues assuring that each transferred fat cell will have an adequate blood supply to achieve the permanent survival of the injected fat cells.

The usual indications of fat grafting are: Shunken & hollow appearance around the eye, Filling of shunken cheek, To augment smaller breasts, To enhance penile girth, To resurface any depressed area of body due to trauma, injections or abscess.

Expected Results

Liposuction usually improves body contours. The results of liposuction depend on many factors many of which are not entirely within the control of the surgeon or the patient like physical condition, genetic makeup and skin elasticity besides the skill of the surgeon. Some factors within the control are- wearing a pressure garment over the area for 3-4 months, which can hasten recovery and improve results. In some instances it may be used in a circumferential fashion, thinning an area. Since the healing process is gradual, you should expect to wait at least several months to get an accurate picture of the results of your surgery. The small incisions used for access of the instrument known as a cannula, will fade over a number of months usually becoming barely visible. The results of liposuction surgery are technically permanent because the fat cells have been removed. However, your body shape and contours might be affected by weight gain, aging, pregnancy, family genetics, and lifestyle factors. It is crucial to maintain healthy habits and a stable weight to prolong the results from liposuction.
